Out in the open

The Strzelce-Krajna region is located in the North-East part of the Lubusz Voivodeship. Due to its location over Noteć and Drawa rivers, among vast forest areas of Gorzów Forestry District and Noteć Valley, as well as numerous nature reserves, this region is one of the most interesting areas in the Western part of Poland.

A postglacial, curved terrain with its lakes and streams among hills, meadows and forests, as well as clean air and hospitality of the citizens all make the region appealing to tourists enjoying hiking, biking, horseback riding, water sports, mushroom picking, hunting and fishing.

Tourists visiting the Strzelce – Drezdenko County will also find a well-developed network of access roads, marked hiking, biking and kayaking trails, catering and accommodation, camping spots, tourist equipment rental shops. There are also various agritourist farms.

Forests

Vast forest areas are a natural wealth of the region, including large pieces of forestry districts: Drawsko and Gorzów with protected areas of Gorzów Landscape Park and Drawa National Park. Temperate climate with warm and humid air from the Atlantic has a significant impact on the region’s plants and animals. The climate and forestation lead to lengthening of the growing season. There is a variety of plants in the region. A specific microclimate of the forests creates perfect conditions for rest. Protected areas are particularly important here.

Mushroom picking

Enthusiasts of mushroom picking will find almost all mushroom species in the vast and clean forests of the region. Tourist may start picking mushrooms as early as June, when you may find the first specimen of boletus and chanterelle. In the summer, depending on the weather, you may find numerous bay boletes, beautiful red-capped scaber stalks and various types of boletes.

Lakes and rivers

Lakes in Dobiegniewo and Strzelce Krajeńskie create the second longest shipping lane in Poland, right after the Masurian lakes, which is 1000 ha of water. The route runs through a very picturesque area with lots of water birds and floating flowers.

Flora

There are many interesting plant species under protection, e.g.: round-leaved sundew, common columbine, common polypody, common cowslip, common hepatica, snowdrop. The following plants are covered by partial protection: menyanthes, Yellow Water-lily, European white water lily. It is extremely rare that there are 138 species of lichen, almost 30% of which is placed on the so-called red list of endangered species in Poland. In the reserves of Mszar Przygiełkowy Długie and Mszar Rosiczkowy near Rokitno there is protected unique collection of swamp and mire plants.

Fauna

In the vast forest areas of the region tourist will often encounter boars, does, hares and even elks. Boars are most easily found in beechwood forests over Drawa, although wild boar rooting may be found everywhere; these are places where animals look for food: pupas, seeds or acorn sprouts. Tourist may also find a white-tailed eagle, common buzzard or northern goshawk here, as well as long-eared owl, brown owl, eurasian eagle-owl, osprey, red kite, lesser spotted eagle, great cormorant, herons and many more.
